It's Okay to be Alone

The world undervalues the joy of being by yourself. During the month of February, the internet explodes with memes that ridicule the miseries of being single. However, in reality, there is nothing wrong with enjoying your own company as you can make this precious time work in your favor.

We tend to concentrate on seeking love outside of ourselves without realizing that love actually begins within. Our bodies are often scratched with self-doubts and we keep looking for someone to get these scars off our bodies. Does that work? Maybe, or maybe not, but before we get someone to accept or embrace our flaws, we must face and accept them ourselves.

Spending time with yourself will give you the time to introspect. A pinch of solitude every now and then can’t hurt, it can only heal.

I have found answers to some alarming questions every time I’ve given myself a chance to be on my own. Solitude has helped me find solutions and has made me less insecure about myself. It can make you feel more comfortable in your own skin. Moreover, it is also during these private times that we tend to think of ourselves honestly. Accepting yourself and the fact that you weren’t born perfect is an incredibly empowering feeling. Once you are comfortable with the person you are, everything else suddenly becomes easier to deal with.

Time alone allows you to get to recognize the things that are toxic to your mind and allows you to find multiple ways to get these harmful elements out of your life. With that comes clarity and a renewed sense of freedom, the kind which will help you find yourself. In the end, isn't that what we're all looking for?

It is an incredible feeling to know that you are an independent person. Self-exploration is an addictive adventure!

During this month of love, take some well-deserved time off to appreciate and love yourself before you go out into the world. LOVE the little things you do and EMBRACE whatever makes you happy. Every day is a good day to love the person you are. Most importantly, it is never too late to begin. So why not begin now?

Things to remember:

  1. Solitude does not mean you are lonely. It just means you are choosing to know yourself before you get to know someone else.

  2. Love yourself. Every bit of what you do. You can create happiness for yourself.

  3. All of us have times when we are alone. Don’t feel upset about it. Learn to enjoy whatever that time offers.

  4. Find solace in your own company. That way you will never feel lonely.

  5. It is ABSOLUTELY okay to be alone. Being single isn’t the end of the world and having someone next to you isn’t the beginning of it either.

Remember to tell yourself: it's okay to be alone. It is okay not to have someone to share a cup of coffee with. It's okay to watch a movie alone. It's okay to share a good laugh on your own. It's okay to be the only one telling you how great you look in that dress. It's okay to just have yourself.
